November 06, 2008A Constitutional Argument Against Stevens' ExpulsionHere, at Point of Order. I believe that some Alaskans likely voted for Sen. Stevens on the theory that he would in fact be expelled, and that Republicans stood a better chance of keeping the seat through expulsion followed by special election than by handing it over to a Democrat for 6 years. If that's the case, then following the will of the voters is trickier than might first appear. Meanwhile, Sen. McConnell may now be supporting an expulsion delay pending Stevens' expected appeal. |
